McLamore , who’s commitment to philanthropy and education made him a pillar of community service in South Florida during his lifetime. Through its national fundraising efforts, the BURGER KING McLAMORE SM Foundation increased this year’s BURGER KING ™ Scholars program fund by more than 50 percent.
Among the winners, 82 students from Illinois received $1,000 scholarship awards in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement, along with other academic and community involvement accomplishments.
“Attending UC Berkeley was only a dream, until receiving the BURGER KING McLAMORE ℠ Foundation Scholarship helped make it a reality,” said Kyle Hosley, 2012 James W. McLamore WHOPPER™ Scholarship winner. “I am exceedingly grateful and wish, in the future, to make a difference in others’ lives as BK ® has in mine.”
Nearly 2,000 students were awarded $1,000 scholarships, and four students won $5,000 regional scholarships. Also, for the second consecutive year four major awards were given, including three $50,000 James W. McLamore WHOPPER™ Scholarship Awards and one $25,000 King Award.
Scholarship awards help students offset the cost of attending college or a post – secondary vocational/technical school. Students throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada are eligible for the scholarships. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average, extracurricular activities, community service and/or work experience. Both BURGER KING ® employees and non-employees are eligible to apply.
